This bill would create the Resilient Florida Trust Fund administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to provide funding to the Resilient Florida Grant Program and the Statewide Flooding and Sea Level Rise Resilience Plan. Florida DEP may also use the trust to fund the Florida Flood Hub for Applied Research and Innovation, coastal resilience initiatives, and grants to regional resilience coalitions.

WHY WE LIKE IT

This bill provides for a dedicated funding mechanism to support Florida’s statewide flood resilience priorities. Given Florida’s vulnerability to the reality of higher seas and more frequent flooding, establishing the Resilient Florida Trust Fund would reflect a remarkable step in supporting local governments, solidifying funding opportunities, and securing the state’s future prosperity.
