This bill would create a federal grant program administered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to help communities strengthen the resilience of their publicly owned treatment works against the increased threats such as severe storms, flooding, and sea level rise. Examples of eligible projects include: watershed protection, modification or relocation of infrastructure at risk of flooding, and water conservation.
WHY WE LIKE IT
Our nation’s aging drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure are exposed to significant risks from flooding, but adaptation projects must compete with other water projects for limited federal resources. Communities need more dedicated federal funding options for resilience in order to pay for these costly but necessary modifications and adapt to the reality of higher seas and stronger storms.
