The Disaster Assistance Simplification Act would establish a universal disaster assistance application for disaster survivors to apply for federal assistance programs across various federal agencies. This web-based system, to be implemented by FEMA, would provide a central location for individuals to apply for aid, receive status updates, and obtain recovery resources.

WHY WE LIKE IT

Applying for aid after a disaster is time-consuming and complicated, as individuals must fill out separate applications for each federal agency assisting in recovery, even though these applications are often duplicative. By establishing a universal application, this proposal would reduce the burden on disaster survivors by making the process simpler, faster, and more accessible.
